Hello, my name is Alexis.  I am 16 years old and proud to say that I will be graduating from Pace Center for Girls, Volusia-Flagler this June and will attend Daytona State College.  I began my journey at Pace as a 10th grader in September 2024 and the progress I’ve made in such a short time would not have been possible without the unwavering support, guidance, and compassion of the incredible staff and teachers here.

Before coming to Pace, I struggled deeply with motivation and self-confidence.  School felt like a place of anxiety rather than growth.  I often felt discouraged, disconnected, and overwhelmed.  I didn’t want to attend classes, let alone engage with my schoolwork.  I carried around emotions I didn’t know how to express, and I felt isolated in those feelings. Pace changed that for me.

With the help of my counselor and the nurturing environment created by the entire school community, I’ve learned how to find and use my voice.  I’ve gained the tools to express myself, to process my thoughts in healthy ways, and to support others by sharing my story.  I no longer feel weighed down by fear or anxiety in the classroom.  I feel heard, seen and empowered!

Today I am able to walk into school with confidence.  I feel comfortable participating, learning, and growing–not just academically, but emotionally and personally.  Pace has not only helped me reclaim my education, but it’s also helped me believe in myself.  For that, I will always be grateful.
